Past tense & past indefinite tense include their uses.

 Use of past indefinite tense & structure with example.

** Past Tense( অতীত কাল বা ভূত কাল)

সংজ্ঞা:- Verb ৰ কাৰ্য পূৰ্বতে বা অতীতত হোৱা বুজালে অতীত কাল ইংৰাজীত past tense হয়। Present Tense ৰ দৰেও Past Tense অক আমি চাৰিটা ভাগত ভাগ কৰিব পাৰি।(The past period is past tense in English when the verb is explained before or in the past. Like Present Tense , We can share The past tense in four parts)
1) Past indefinite Tense ( সাধাৰন ভূতকাল)
2) Past continuous Tense (স্বৰূপ ভূতকাল)
3) Past Perfect Tense(পূৰ্নভূত কাল)
4) Past perfect continuous Tense( পূৰ্নস্বৰূপ ভূতকাল )
** Past indefinite Tense:-
যেতিয়া অতীত কালত সাধাৰনতে কোনো কাম কৰা বুজায় তেতিয়া Past indefinite Tense হয়। Past indefinite Tense অত Principal verb টো কেৱল Past Tense হয়। (Past indefinite means when it means doing something in the past. The Pass indefinite Tense is such a principal verb is only The past Tense.)
Structure:-
                    S + V₂ + O
Conjugation of the verb take to ( play).
I played football.
we played football.
You played football.
He/She/ it played football.
They played football.
** Past Indefinite Tense ৰ ব্যৱহাৰ (Use of past indefinite tense):-
1) অতীততে সমাধা বা শেষ হোৱা কোনো কাম বুজাবলৈ verb ৰ Past Indefinite হয়।
অথবা কোনো কাৰ্য অতীততে শেষ হৈ যোৱা বুজাবলৈ Past Indefinite Tense ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়। (Past Indefinite Tense is used to explain that an action has been completed in the past.)
E.g.:
যেনে:-
1) তেওঁ কালি ইয়ালৈ আহিছিল।
=> He came here yesterday.
2) যোৱা দেওবাৰে মই চিৰিয়াখানালৈ গৈছিলাে।
=> I went to the zoo last sunday.
3) মোৰ দেউতা ১৯৯০ চনত ঢুকাইছিলো।
=> My father died in 1990.
4) আমি বহু বছৰ আগতে গুৱাহাটীলৈ আহিছিলো।
=> We came to Guwahati many years ago.
5) আব্দুল কালি সভাখনলৈ যোৱা নাছিল।
=> Abdul did not go to the meeting yesterday .
6) তেওঁৰ দেউতাক ঘৰত নাছিল।
=> His father was not at home.
7) আমি যেতিয়া দিল্লী পাইছিলোগৈ তেতিয়া নিশা দহ বাজিছিল।
=> It was ten in the evening when we reached Delhi.
8) আমি নৈৰ পাৰে পাৰে ফুৰিলো আৰু ধুনীয়া দৃশ্যবোৰ উপভোগ কৰিলো।
=> We walked along the river bank and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
9) এই কিতাপখন মই পৰহি কিনিছিলো।
=> I bought this book the day before yesterday .
10) তাত বহুতো মানুহ গোট খাইছিল।
=> Many people assembled there.
11) তেওঁ তৎক্ষনাতে মোক চিনি পাইছিল।
=> He recognized me at once.
12) আমি তেওঁক আমাৰ ঘৰলৈ নিমন্ত্ৰণ জনাইছিলো।
=> We invited him to our house.
13) আকাশত মেঘ নাছিল।
=> There was no cloud in the sky.
14) আমি তেওঁক অলপতে লগ পাইছিলো।
=> We met him recently.
15) মই কালি ৰমেশৰ ঘৰলৈ গৈছিলো।
=> Yesterday I went to Ramesh's house.
16) আমি গৈছিলো।
=> We went.
17) তোমালোক গৈছিলা।
=> You went.
18) সি/তাই/তেওঁ /তেখেত গৈছিল।
=> He/She/ went.
19) সিহঁত/ তেওঁলোক/তেখেত গৈছিল।
=> They went.
20) মোৰ মা গৈছিল।
=> My mother went.
21) ৰাজু গৈছিল।
=> Raju went.
** Habitual action বুজাবলৈ Past Indefinite Tense ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়। ( Past Indefinite Tense is used to explain the habitual action.)
যেনে:-
1) আমি তেওঁক মামা বুলি মাতিছিলো।
=> We used to call him msma.
2) আমি এইখন পথাৰত বেডমিন্টন খেলিছিলো।
=> We used to play badminton in this field.
3) তেওঁ নিয়মীয়াকৈ আহিছিল।
=> He used to come regularly .
4) মই ভাল ছাত্ৰ আছিলো।
=> I used to be a good student.
5) সিহঁতে বিনা টিকটত ভ্ৰমন কৰিছিল।
=> They used to travel without tickets.
6) তেওঁ  কেতিয়াওঁ চিগাৰেট নাখায়।
=> He never smoked cigarette.
** কোনো কাম অলপ আগতে আৰম্ভ হৈ এতিয়ালৈকে চলি থকা বুজালেও past indefinite Tense ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়।( The pass indefinite Tense is used even if a work is started a while ago and is still underway.)
যেনে:- He went ( has gone) to enjoy a cinema.
** নম্ৰতা , অনুৰোধ, দ্বিধা( hesitation)আদি প্ৰকাশৰ বাবে ( modesty) can, may, will, আদি verb অৰ past form বোৰ ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়। (The past form of actions such as modesty , can, may, will, etc. are used to explain humility, request, hesitation etc.)
=> Can i have a glass of water?
1) পানী এগিলাছ খাব পাৰো/ পাৰিম নেকি?
=> Could i please have a glass of water?
2) লোকেল ফোন এটা কৰিব পাৰো/ পাৰিম নেকি?
=> Can i make a local call?
=> Could i please make a local call?
3) খিৰিখীখন খুলি দিব পাৰো/ পাৰিবা নেকি?
=> Can you please open the window?
=> Could you please open the window?
4) তুমি মোক দিব পাৰিবা নেকি?
=> Can you give me?
=> Could you give me?(বেছি নম্ৰভাৱে).
5) তুমি মোক দিব পাৰা নেকি?
=> Can you give me?
=> Could you give me?
6) মই আপোনাৰ লগত যাব পাৰো/ পাৰিম নকি?
=> Might I go with you(বেছি নম্ৰ).
=> May I go with you?
7) ‌আপোনাৰ নামটো জানিব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May I know you name , please?
=> Might i Know you name , please( বেছি নম্ৰ).
8) ‌আপোনাক সহায় কৰিব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May i help you?
=> Might i help you?
9) পানী এগিলাচ খাব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May i have a glass of water?
=> Might i have a glass of water?
10) মই বহিব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May i have a seat?
=> Might i have a seat?
11) মই বাৰু মিষ্টাৰ বৰুৱাৰ লগত কথা কব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May i speak to Mr. Baruah, please?

12) মই বহিব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May i have a seat?
=> Might i have a seat?
13) মই বাৰু ইয়াত ছিগাৰেট এটা খাব পাৰোনে/ পাৰিম নেকি?
=> May i smoke here?
=> Might i smoke here?( বেছি নম্ৰভাৱে)
14) আপোনালোক অনুগ্ৰহ কৰি তালৈ যাব পাৰে।
=> you may please go there.
=> You might please go there.
15) মই এবাৰ চাব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May i have a look please?
=> Might i have a look please?
16) মই এবাৰ চাব পাৰো নেকি?
=> May i have a look please?
17) তুমি অকলে যাব পাৰিবানে?
=> Will you be able to go alone?
=> would you be able to go alone?
18) মই অকলে কৰিব পাৰিম।
=> I will be able to do it alone
=> I would be able to do it alone?( বেছি নম্ৰভাৱে).
19) মই বিনা পইছাত যাব পাৰিম।
=> I will be able to go free of cost.
=> I would be able to go free of cost.(বেছি নম্ৰভাবে).
20) মই তাক লগ ধৰিব পাৰিছিলো।
=> He could meet him.
21) সি অকলে আহিব পাৰিছিল।
=> He could come alone.
22) ৰাজুৱে গাড়ীখন চলাব পাৰিছিল।
=> Raju could drive the car.
23) মই আহিব নোৱাৰিলো।
=> I could not come.
24) তুমি যাব পাৰিছিলানে?
=> Could you go?
25) মই ডাঙৰ হলোহেঁতেন?
=> I would have been a doctor?
26) মই লন্ডনত থাকিলোহেতেন?
=> I would have been in london.
27) মই ভাবিছিলো যে সি আহিব।
=> I thought( that) he would come.
** কেতিয়াবা ইচ্ছা( willingness) অনিচ্ছা বা আগ্ৰ ( regusal or inclination) আদি প্ৰকাশ কৰিবৰ বাবেও can , will, shall. (Sometimes can, will, shall etc. to express willingness, unwillingness or regusal or inclination.)
যেনে:-
1) সি অকলে আহিব পাৰিছিল।
=> He could come alone.
2) মই আনন্দ বাবে হাঁহিব পাৰিছিলো।( আগ্ৰহ)
=> I could laugh for joy.
3) তেওঁ আমাক গোপন কব নোৱাৰিব।(অনিচ্ছা).
=> He would not tell us secret .
** বৰ্তমানৰ অৰ্থ এটা প্ৰকাশ কৰিবলৈ ' It is time, I wish , would sooner/ rather আদি কিছুমান expression অৰ পিছত past indefinite ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়। (To express the current meaning, 'It is time, I wish, would sooner/rather' are used after some expressions and then the pass indefinite is used.)
যেনে:- 1) আমাৰ ঘৰলৈ যোৱাৰ সময় হল।
=> It is time we went home.
2) তাই সময়মতে আহি পোৱাটো বা গৈ পোৱাটো মই কামনা কৰিছো।
=> I wish she arrived in time.
3) তুমি বিচািৰছা যে মই ধূমপান এৰি দিওঁ, কিন্তু মই নোৱাৰোঁ।
=> You would rather want I gave up smoking, but I can not.
4) আমাৰ বিচনালৈ যোৱাৰ সময় হ'ল।
=> It is time we went to bed.
5) মই ( মোৰ) চাকৰি গ্ৰহন কৰাটো মই কামনা কৰিছো।
=> I wish I accepted the job.
6) তেওঁ  মোক জনাটো মই কামনা কৰিছো।
=> I wish he Knew me.
7) মই তোমাক সহায় কৰিব পৰাটো মই কামনা কৰিছো।
=> I wish I could help you.
8) আমি ঘৰলৈ ঘূৰি অহাৰ সময় হ'ল।
=> It is time we returned home.
9) মই ( মোৰ) ৰজা হোৱাটো মই কামনা কৰিছো।
=> I wish I were king.
10) মই তাইক জনাটো মই কামনা কৰিছো।
=> I wish I knew her.
